Remembering the ANZACs - Lest we Forget

Bu & Perridak Under 2s

Poppy making; Using red paint make handprints in a circle with the fingers on the outside.  Using fingers paint the middle black. For an extra messy treat allow the children to explore with red paint on black paper in support of our ANZACs.


Go-Yin 2 to 3 years

Poppy collage making; Cut a potato in half and using this with red paint stamp red poppies onto a piece of card/paper. Using a pen create stalks to the poppies and using black paint and your fingers colour the middle of the poppy in black.  Hang in the window to display.


Ngurr-Ngurr 3 to 6 years

Poppy Reef; Using an egg cartoon cut the bottom egg holders out, trim the edges to look like a poppy and then paint with red and black. Using a cardboard circle stick in the arrangement of a reef and hang on the front door.


Mon-Garrk Primary school

Anzac candle lantern; Using the bottom half of a milk bottle decorate with Poppies, medals and the Australian and New Zealand flag using sharpie pens.  Place a tealight inside and ensure it is placed at the bottom of the drive on ANZAC morning at 6 am.


Djila-Tjarri Exercise time

Commando Circuit; Create an inside/outside commando circuit for the children to participate with, ensure you include mountain climbers, commando crawling under some net, climbing, running and jumping. 


Family-Friendly Recipe Idea:

anzac biscuits

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 125g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbs golden syrup
  • 1 tbs water
  • 1/2 tsp bi-carb soda

Method 

  • Sift the flour into a bowl. Add the sugar, rolled oats and coconut to the bowl
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan, then add golden syrup and water.
  • Stir the bicarbonate of soda into the liquid mixture.
  • Add the liquid to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  • Place walnut-sized balls of mixture on a greased tray and bake at 175C for 15-20 minutes.
  • Biscuits will start to harden as they cool.
